Section Proposals for the General Conference
- All sections must have one Chair and one Co-Chair.
- The Section Chair must be from an ECPR Full Member institution.
- The Co-Chair may come from a Full, Associate or non-member institution.
- The person proposing a Section will, by default, be the Section Chair.
What you will need
To complete and submit the Section Proposal, you will need the following:
- My ECPR account: If you don’t already have one, it takes just a few clicks to create.
- Co-Chair's email address: As registered in their My ECPR account. .
- Section title: Maximum 20 words
- Section overview: Maxiumum 1000 words, including planned Panels, their themes, and potential Chairs.
- Keywords: Select three to eight keywords from a predetermined list that indicate the Section's subject, theme, and scope.
- Number of Panels required: Sections not endorsed by a Standing Group or Research Network may have a minimum of three and a maximum of eight Panels. Sections endorsed by a Standing Group or Research Network may have up to 10 Panels.
Important Notes:
- If your Section is endorsed by a Standing Group, please confirm the endorsement with the Steering Committee Chairs before submitting your proposal.
- Formal Panel proposals must be submitted by Panel Chairs during the second stage of the application process.
- All Panels included in the Section proposals are assumed to be held in person. Section Chairs who wish to hold a fully virtual Section should contact our Events Team before the submission deadline. Please visit the event's website for information regarding the submission deadlines.
Standing Group endorsements
Endorsed proposals receive priority. If two proposals are of equal quality, preference is given to the one endorsed by a Standing Group or Research Network.
Each Standing Group or Research Network may endorse one Section, though joint endorsements with other groups are allowed.
The Section Evaluation Process
The Academic Convenors will evaluate Section proposals based on:
- Proposal Quality: Clarity, relevance, and detail.
- Chairs' Competence: Experience and expertise of
the Section Chairs. - Participation Potential: Likelihood of attracting interest and submissions.
The preliminary allocation of Panels is determined by the Academic Convenors and may be adjusted based on the number of Panel/Paper proposals submitted before the final review.
Notification of the evaluation outcome
Queries regarding the academic content of the proposed Section should be addressed to the Academic Convenors via the Events Team before the proposal deadline.
