The Panel and Paper Review Process

The role of the Section Chair

Section Chairs are responsible for:

  • Evaluating and assessing all Panel and individual Paper proposals in their Section.
  • Allocating individual Paper proposals to Panels, or creating Panels from individual Papers where needed.
  • Designating Chairs and Discussants for Panels in a Section.
  • Evaluating the quality of the proposal and its alignment with the Section theme when evaluating Panels and Papers.
  • Ensuring diversity in terms of gender, geographic representation, and career stages when forming Panels

Section Chairs' Selection of Panels and Papers Phase

Once the Panel and Paper proposal phase has closed, Section Chairs can access submitted proposals through their My ECPR account. The event webpage lists the review phase dates, and an email notification will be sent when the phase begins.

During this phase, Section Chairs may approve, decline or reserve Panel and Paper proposals in their Section.

Academic Convenors' Review Phase

After the Section Chairs Review, Academic Convenors will evaluate the approved Panels and Papers to finalise the Academic Programme.

The deadline for the Academic Convenors to complete the review is listed on the event's web page.

Academic Convenors may reallocate Panels and Papers to other Sections as needed. Section Chairs may be asked to:

  • Integrate new Panels into their Section.
  • Adjust existing Panels to accommodate additional Papers.
  • Reduce the number of Panels and reassign Papers as necessary.

Individual papers not included in a Panel will be assigned by Section Chairs to an existing Panel or grouped into a new one based on their subject matter.

Proposers will be notified of the outcome of their submission via email. The date for this phase will be listed on the event's web page.
