Funding Opportunities

Our range of funding streams is dedicated to supporting both individual careers and the wider development of the discipline. We are continuously looking for new opportunities to increase and improve the value to our affiliates and, in turn, their institution.

The ECPR currently offers two funding opportunities, the 50th Anniversary Fund and the Event Participation Grant, subject to terms and conditions.

50th Anniversary Fund

Support from the 50th Anniversary Fund is given to individual scholars, from both Member and Non-Member institutions, who are not eligible to apply for the ECPR's Event Participant Grant.

These grants cover the full registration fees for all successful applicants from member institutions or 50% discount off the registration fees for those from non-member institutions and, if applicable, up to £500 towards travel and accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a grant you must:

  • not receive any other funding, from your institution or other sources, for this event;
  • not have received funding from ECPR within the last two years for any ECPR events; and
  • must be presenting an accepted paper at the event (applicable only to the Joint Sessions and General Conference).

If the number of applications exceeds the available budget, preference will be given to the more junior researchers and to researchers without a salary. Preference will, in a later phase, also be given to applicants who have not received funding support from ECPR in the past.

Event Participation Grant

Successful applicants receive a full fee waiver and up to £500 towards travel and accommodation costs.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

  • be affiliated to an ECPR Full Member institution;
  • be a Graduate Student (Master's or PhD) or Early Career Scholar (ECS)*  at the time of application;
  • be presenting an accepted paper at the event (applicable only to the Joint Sessions and the General Conference);
  • not be in receipt of any other funding, from your institution or other sources, for this event;
  • not have received funding from ECPR within the last two years.

*ECS is defined as being within five years of completing your PhD.

Applying for a Grant

Any funding opportunities for each event are displayed here. A button allowing applications to be made will be displayed from the opening date and will be removed at the end date.

Required Documentation

1. Application Statement

A brief statement outlining your motivation for attending the event and how it aligns with your academic and professional goals. The system will prompt you to input this statement within the application form.

This statement will be assessed by members of the ECPR’s Executive Committee and is the most important component of your application. To ensure fairness, the reviewers will not have access to any personal or institutional information, so please avoid including such details in your Application Statement.

Below are questions to guide you when drafting your statement:

  • Why do you wish to attend the event?
  • What do you aim to get out of attending the event or the course you wish to receive funding for? Explain why you have selected it?
  • How will it enhance your career or studies?
  • Why would you not be able to attend the event without the support of funding?

2. Letter from your Institution

A signed letter from your Head of Department, on an official letterhead, verifying that you are not receiving any additional funding or financial assistance form the institution or any other funding body for the event. This should be be submitted in PDF format.

3. Digital Copy of Student ID

This should be uploaded through your My ECPR account to be verified.

Notice of Acceptance

You will be notified of the outcome of your application by email. The reviewer's decision is final.
